Newly elected President, Barbara Anderson, sees danger on the horizon. After a protracted trade war, China is retaliating covertly against the United States. The President suspects that a surge in civil unrest, made worse by a flood of 3D printed guns that are untraceable, is being fostered by the Chinese government.
Elected by the slimmest Electoral College margin in history, the President lacks the political capital to fight back. Looking for her own covert weapon, she sends Lavinia to Beijing to stop the cyber attacks.
While on her mission, Lavinia discovers a secret agreement made between China, Russia, and the European Union. A plan to displace the United States as a global economic power.
Meanwhile, as their economy has grown to rival that of the United States, the Chinese have been investing heavily in their military. Growing confident in the strength of their conventional weapons, they have deployed their forces in the South China Sea for exercises within range of the US fleet.
Tension in the diplomatic world is rising, but the nuclear deterrent held by the United States precludes war. Or does it?
